Arquata rises in a strategic position, among 4 different regions (Marche, Lazio, Abruzzo and Umbria), on the top of a mountain which dominates the whole Tronto River Valley. Our extraordinary land is also the only municipality in Europe shared between 2 National Parks: the “Sibillini Mountains National Park” and the “Gran Sasso-Laga Mountains National Park”.

The territory, because of the richness of his forests, meadows and waters, is one of the most beautiful areas of the Appennini. For this reason, tourism is developed during Summer as well as in Winter periods. The territory is closed up North by ‘Mount Vettore’ (2478 m) and down South by ‘Pizzo di Sevo’ (2419 m). These mountains are the highest ones, respectively, of the Sibillini Mountains and Laga Mountains.
Your stay in Arquata will be an experience full of nature and tranquillity. You will make it richer with a visit to one of the many surrounding towns of Art: ‘Norcia’ (Ancient Sabine center, capitol of the “norcineria”); Cascia (destination of pilgrimages to “Santa Rita’s sanctuary”); Ascoli (the town of the “one hundred towers”); San Benedetto del Tronto (a famous seaside resort); Amatrice (celebrated for the “Spaghetti alla Amatriciana”); Castelluccio (famous for the typical lentil and the fantastic colours of the Pian Grande during the Spring).
Arquata replenishes ancient history in modern life. Despite its fast highways and modern social and economic structures, it allows a quiet and interesting stay.
The name Arquata comes from the latin “arx” (meaning fortress). From every point of the valley it is possible to see the fortress called ‘Rocca’, in the middle of this extraordinary scenery. The central position permits to dominate the Salaria street, the ancient “way of the salt”, connecting Rome to the Adriatic Sea. Along with this, other important streets running through Arquata connect the Adriatic Sea with the Tyrrenian Sea, leading to important medieval cities of Central Italy (Fermo, Norcia, Ascoli, L’Aquila and Rome). The presence of the fortress underlines the importance of this area during Roman and Medieval Ages.
