The Queen Giovanna d’Angiò from Naples lived in the Rocca of Arquata from 1420 to 1435, when Arquata was the last bastion of the Neapolitan Kingdom.

Some say that the King, who was disillusioned with the Queen’s lustful desires and mental instability, locked her up in the ‘Male Tower’ of the Rocca.

Legend states that she attracted the local shepherds into her Tower promising a night of pleasure. However their destiny depended upon their ability to sexually please the Queen; if left unsatisfied, she would throw the shepherds to the wolves...
