The Holy Shroud of Arquata PDF Print E-mail

In a document on parchment dated 1 May 1655 it is written that on request of the bishop Giovanni Paolo Bucciarelli, a linen sheet or a shroud, was set upon the Holy Sindone and using an ancient technique, the same image has been impressed upon the new sheet, which has been conserved for centuries in S. Francesco’s Church in Borgo di Arquata.

The copy was made because the Roman Church wanted a copy of the Holy Shroud: in fact the original one was a property of the Savoia family.

The Sindone of Arquata del Tronto is not a copy but an extract from the original, so it is considered a conservation of the blood of Jesus Christ.
