Altitude: 970 m.l.m.
Spelonga is the most populated of all hamlets of Arquatan territory and there is a strong sense of belonging amongst the inhabitants: the “Festa Bella” (“Beautiful Feast”) is the symbol of this sense of belonging. The whole village has a rich and interesting patrimony of ancient houses. In Spelonga you can find the Sant’Agata’s Church, with many frescos made by Panfilo da Spoleto and Cola D’Amatrice. But the masterpiece of the whole Church is a war trophy: a Turkish flag which belonged to a Turkish navy ship, stolen in during Lepanto’s battle in 1571, by the soldiers of Spelonga.
